& Life Transitions
Room to ask what matters now.
A role that once gave your life direction may no longer fit in the same way. Work changes, a relationship ends, children become more independent, or a loss rearranges your sense of what matters. Sometimes the shift is quieter: the life you have built looks right, but feels less like your own.
Therapy offers space to consider what is changing without rushing to replace it with a new plan. We can talk about what you want to hold onto, what you may be ready to release, and what remains uncertain.
More than the role you fill.
You may have come to know yourself through being useful, successful, dependable, or needed. Those parts of you can matter deeply. We can also make room for interests, relationships, and needs that have received less attention.
We can explore the difference between what you want and what you feel expected to want. The aim is not to dismiss responsibility or achievement, but to understand how they fit into the life you want to live now.
What we might explore.
Work, achievement, and retirement
A change in work can raise questions about identity, security, contribution, and the shape of your days. We can look at what work has meant to you and what you want to make room for within or beyond it.
Loss and changing relationships
Separation, bereavement, estrangement, or changes in family roles can bring grief alongside other feelings you may not expect. There is room to acknowledge what has been lost without being pushed toward a particular timeline or conclusion.
Values and next steps
When the direction is unclear, we can begin with what feels important rather than a complete answer. We can consider the choices in front of you, the limits you are working within, and small steps that reflect your values.
You don't need a reinvention.
Change may involve a major decision, or it may begin with a different conversation, a more honest boundary, or time given to something you have missed. We can move at a pace that allows for reflection as well as action.
If responsibility, visibility, or a demanding professional life is part of what you carry, there is space for those concerns, too.
A place to begin.
We can start with what has been on your mind, even if you don't yet have the words for all of it. I offer therapy in Santa Barbara and online throughout California.
