Parenting, identity, and connection

Fatherhood

The relationship you are building.
The parent you are becoming.

You can love your child deeply and still feel uncertain about being a father. The everyday demands of parenting may meet parts of you that feel impatient, frightened, protective, or overwhelmed. There is room to talk about all of it.

I work with fathers who want to understand themselves more fully and bring greater intention to their relationships with their children. We can begin wherever you are: preparing for a first child, navigating adolescence, parenting across households, or finding your place with an adult child.

What you carry into parenting.

Your own experience of being parented may offer guidance, or it may leave you wondering what to do differently. We can explore the care you received, what was missing, and the expectations you inherited about authority, affection, and responsibility.

The purpose is not to assign blame or become a perfect parent. It is to notice what happens between you and your child, take responsibility for your part, and make room for a different response.

Room for the difficult parts.

Becoming a father

A new child can bring joy alongside exhaustion, disconnection, and changes in identity or partnership. You can speak honestly about the transition without needing to make it sound easier than it is.

Conflict and repair

We can look at moments when you lose patience, feel shut out, or struggle to hold a boundary. Together, we can explore listening, expressing care, and returning to a conversation after something has gone wrong.

Co-parenting and changing families

Separation, remarriage, blended families, and different parenting styles can raise questions about roles and belonging. Therapy offers space to consider what is within your control and how you want to respond while keeping your child's needs in view.

Support for you, too.

Being available to your family does not mean you have no needs of your own. We can make space for your relationships, your limits, and the kind of support that helps you remain connected to yourself.
