Therapy for beginners

Therapy is a relational process that allows the client to explore new ways of thinking and feeling in an environment that is safe, informative, and inspiring.

Therapy feels different for everyone. You should expect your therapist to work with you at your level in a style that feels comfortable and productive for you.

Some people enter therapy because there is something about their life or emotional system that needs attention. Others see therapy as a form of mental fitness and attend therapy as a way to keep their body and mind as healthy as possible.

First Sessions

In our first sessions you will have an opportunity to decide whether I am the right therapist for you. We will assess your goals to assure that I have the resources that you need to accomplish them. If necessary, I will help you find a therapist who is a perfect fit for your specific goals.

In our initial session we will preview the therapeutic relationship and develop a treatment path. We will discuss confidentiality, fees, prior engagements with therapy, your history, your present, and your future.

Length of Treatment

Goal-specific treatment can be completed in as few as six sessions, whereas persistent issues could take three to twelve months to resolve.  Those individuals who are willing to utilize therapy as a form of mental fitness may find value in ongoing treatment.  We will work together to create a treatment plan that is evidence-based and appropriate for you.
